I had planned to do a few warm up gigs before The Launch Crew’s festival appearance this year but, without a whinge, the interest doesn’t seem to be there. The oTv Blues and Other Hues idea to garner support for the website upkeep, was given a fair tryout under the “back in the day” premise of having at least four acts for the paying audience, with freebies on the night. (signed Cds, drinks vouchers etc). The delusionary effect of having 1,100 FB friends, the majority of whom are in Ireland and who requested FRIEND status, was the expectation that at least, twenty five would turn up to support the promotion of original material by extremely talented artists. Sadly, it resulted in a pilfering of my pension project’s pockets
As a creative person, with the occasional discipline to write/produce original work, I honestly feel that the compulsion to share is not just self-serving, but also a thank you to the frozen chew that appreciate what I do. The vanity aspect has been dismantled because there is nothing to be gained by asking professional artists to perform to almost empty rooms.
That being said, the usefulness of regular posts to FB and Instagram as promotional tools for my work, including VERGEMERGE, is now VERY debatable. However I am not planning a COMPLETE Retreat from the platforms, ……just using them more efficiently to direct traffic toward the REAL DESTINATION www.ontheverge.ie where genuine fans can download my continuous work.
